Zeal, Alignment, and Energy: What If You're Chasing the Wrong Success?

In a world addicted to optimization and achievement, there’s a quieter, but more powerful, truth many professionals miss:
Authenticity compounds. Misalignment drains.
I recently sat down with Nadia ✨ Carta , Google’s Head of Data Measurement & Analytics for WPP Agencies, AI Evangelist, TEDx speaker, Founder of Spark Your Zeal™, and host of the 99 Humans podcast, on the Ambition Aligned podcast. Her story is more than inspiring, it’s a masterclass in what happens when you choose to build a life around purpose, not performance alone.
Here are the key insights that stood out—especially for those of us navigating high-performance environments.
🧭 Purpose Isn’t a Luxury—It’s Your Operating System
Too many of us wait until we’ve “made it” to start asking the bigger questions. Nadia challenges that directly.
“Your gifts unlock your purpose. And when you live in alignment with that, everything else, including money, follows.”
Most people default to Maslow’s hierarchy: secure the paycheck, then think about fulfillment. But Nadia flips the pyramid. In her model, clarity of calling is the foundation, not the final reward.
Mental Model: The Alignment Ladder
Gift → Recognize your zone of genius
Purpose → Direct it toward meaningful service
Energy → Raise your vibrational state
Opportunity → Let resonance attract the right doors
Wealth → Flows as a byproduct, not a pursuit
🧠 Energy Hygiene is Real—and Underrated
One of Nadia’s most powerful observations was around “input patterns”. We need to watch what we input because it will result in our output.
“If you’re consuming fear, chaos, and distraction, how do you expect to receive clarity? How can your spirit speak when your mind is overwhelmed?”
Harvard Business Review research shows that leaders with high emotional regulation and presence consistently outperform peers in trust-building, especially under pressure. That starts with mastering what you let into your mind.
This is more than mindset, it’s hygiene. Emotional and spiritual burnout often begins as unchecked mental clutter.
🌲 You Don’t Have to Walk the Default Path
During our conversation, I shared a metaphor that’s stuck with me: Life is like walking through a dense forest. Most of us follow the path worn down by others, assuming it’s the only way. But we do have a choice. We can pause, assess, and carve a new trail, one that’s aligned with our core values and gifts.
But that takes courage. And it takes intention, and Nadia agrees can still align with a corporate career.
“You don’t have to live outside your values. You can still work in corporate, but do it on purpose, not by default.”
📌 Final Thought: Choose with Clarity, Not Convenience
Whether you’re early in your career or sitting at a senior table, the real question is the same:
Are you living with intention, or just executing expectations?
If you’re misaligned, success will still feel hollow. If you’re aligned, even the hardest seasons will feel purposeful.
