Using LinkedIn to Support Those Impacted by Meta's Layoffs & The Cost of Misalignment
In light of Meta's recent layoffs, where over 4,000 employees—including high performers—were unexpectedly let go, it’s more important than ever to use platforms like LinkedIn to connect, support, and empower one another.
If you've been impacted, I want to help. I'm happy to connect you with open roles at Google or introduce you to recruiters in my network. Whether you need a referral, career advice, or just someone to listen, please don't hesitate to reach out.
But beyond offering support, these moments of transition often come with deeper reflections—ones that resonate with my own journey.
The Cost of Misalignment
Throughout my career, I've learned that the most challenging lessons often stem not from outright failures but from subtle misalignments. Failure is conspicuous, manifesting in missed opportunities and clear setbacks. Misalignment, however, is insidious, creeping in quietly under the guise of success.
Every time I deviated from my core values—pursuing external validation, overextending myself, or placing ambition above relationships—the fabric of my life began to fray. Outwardly, I appeared to be thriving with promotions and accolades. Yet, beneath that veneer, there was a growing disconnect.
The Hidden Costs
Misalignment invariably exacts a toll:
Peace of Mind: A constant, nagging unease that something isn't right.
Relationships: A gradual erosion of meaningful connections.
Self-Identity: Over time, you may no longer recognize the person you've become.
I once believed that greater achievements would bridge these gaps. However, success doesn't rectify misalignment; it amplifies it. The more I accomplished, the more evident the chasm between the life I was leading and the one I truly desired. These principles hold true for organizations just as much as people.
A Call for Reflection
True transformation begins when we confront the uncomfortable truths we've been avoiding. It starts with reflection on the following points, either from the perspective of the organization or person:
For people:
Am I living in alignment with my values?
Am I building a life that reflects my authentic self or merely conforming to external expectations?
For Organizations:
Is my organization living in alignment with its values?
Is my organization building a business that reflects my value proposition, or merely conforming to investor expectations?
My RISE Again framework has helped me navigate these questions:
Character: Are your actions aligned with your core values?
Connection: Are you fostering relationships that support and uplift you?
Capacity: Are you investing in skills and habits that expand your potential?
Calling: Are you pursuing work that feels meaningful and impactful?
Support for Those Impacted by Meta's Layoffs
Meta's recent layoffs, particularly the reports of high-performing employees being unexpectedly terminated, underscore the dangers of organizational misalignment. When a company's actions diverge from its stated values or when performance metrics fail to capture true contributions, the consequences can be profound.
If you've been impacted by these layoffs, I want to help. I’ve had the privilege of helping several colleagues transition to new roles after similar experiences, and I'd be honored to do the same for you. Let’s connect and find opportunities that align with your values and strengths.
LinkedIn: A Tool for Connection and Empowerment
As we navigate these challenging times, it's essential to remember that LinkedIn isn't just a platform for job hunting—it's a community. Let’s use this space to connect, empower, and uplift each other.
If you’re hiring, tag someone in need of a role. If you’ve found yourself in transition, share your story. We’re stronger together, and by building each other up, we can create opportunities even in the toughest of times.
Let’s keep the conversations going and ensure that no one faces these challenges alone.
